Boulder Cycle Sport Bike Fitting & Ride Comfort Enhancing Options:
Retul / 3-D Bike Fit

Retul bike fit solutions incorporate the best elements of science and art, offering modern bike fit tools far beyond the capabilities of those previously available! Retul Vantage Motion Capture with Retul Muve Fit Cycle technology provides the fitter with more real-time data collection and micro-adjustability to the rider’s position than ever before.
This level of fit includes a rider interview, physical assessment, data capture, on bike adjustment and comprehensive data collection. First, the objective is to assess the rider’s unique capabilities and limitations. We then ensure every point of measurement falls within the ranges Retul has developed after collecting information from thousands of riders. Next, we digitize all contact points using the Zinn Wand and provide the rider with a highly detailed and comprehensive fit report.
Though this fit is recommended for cyclist of any level, it is especially beneficial to those interested in purchasing a new bike. The quality and amount of data collected removes all guesswork, ensuring the fit of your new bike, and makes placing a special order a no risk proposition.
Only Retul Certified fitters will provide this service at Boulder Cycle Sport.

BG Fit – using Specialized’s Body Geometry Technology

Designed and taught by The Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, the BG Fit has become the standard by which all other fit protocols are measured. This fit starts with a multi-step physical assessment, which will ascertain the rider’s strength, flexibility, and unique structural make-up. This is done in order to formulate a comprehensive picture of how the rider’s body will integrate with the bike before he or she even takes a pedal stroke.
We then use BG Video Capture Technology to observe the rider while under pedaling load. By coupling the information from the physical assessment with the video capture we can then make adjustments in a highly informed and detailed manner. The video capture also allows for immediate observation of whatever impact the adjustments may have.
The BG Fit also includes Z-Plane analysis, which optimizes the rider’s hip, knee, and ankle alignment. This ensures that the riders can pedal efficiently and comfortably, while minimizing the risk of injury.
Only Masters Level Certified fitters perform this fit at Boulder Cycle Sport.
$250 (2-1/2 hrs.)
Both RETUL 3D and BG FIT services include FREE pedal, cleat, saddle and handlebar assessment, selection and implementation as well as 1 follow-up fit; this is a $200 VALUE!

OUR RETUL CERTIFIED FITTERS
SEAN PALMER

Hailing from the confines of the industrial northeast, cycling has always represented one thing to Sean: Freedom. He has become a lifetime addict to that feeling of exhilaration which first came when he realized dad was no longer holding onto the saddle, as he said he would, and that Sean was now pedaling upright, on his own, for the first time. Then, like Wili E. Coyote who realizes that the cliff stopped about 10 steps ago; Sean came crashing to the ground. It was the begging of a love affair.
Since that first trauma-inducing experience the bike has been an all-consuming passion for Sean. It has been a livelihood that has taken him to varied places such as Seattle, Chicago, and now, Boulder. But, more importantly, the bike has provided experiences and friendships that would not have otherwise occurred. It is because of these that Sean knows, first hand, that regardless if it is racing, training, touring, or commuting to work, your day will simply be better if you are on a bike.
It is this certainty that life is best experienced from the saddle that lead to Sean’s interest in fitting. How the human body, a kinetic and highly variable entity, interacts with a bike, a rigid piece of machinery, to produce forward movement has proven to be an endlessly fascinating question, even after a decade of study and numerous schools.
Even though every step of this journey reveals that there is always more left to learn, it is Sean’s belief that the purpose of a bike fit is to allow the bike to disappear under the rider. This means that if the fitter has done his or her job properly, then the rider will experience nothing but that moment of exhilaration we all had when we first realized we were pedaling on our own.
Sean is both a Body Geometry and Retul certified fitter. He finds writing about himself in the third person a disconcerting experience

JOHN COLEMAN aka ‘COLEMAN’
John Coleman began fitting professionally in 1997 as proprietor of Kenwood Cyclery in Minneapolis, MN. Previously trained and practiced in classic road-race fit, Coleman soon developed a fit methodology inspired by working relationships with Grant Peterson (Rivendell) and Richard Schwinn (Waterford). Both were revolutionary to realize that consumers rarely share the same physiology as the professional cyclist so why should they be asked to ride what the professional rides? The synthesis of this was simple; the bike must be adjustable or designed to meet the needs of the rider, not the other way around. Because of this, by 2001 Kenwood Cyclery became the epicenter for purchasing a custom fit, well designed and often hand-made bicycles.
Coleman’s own life experience with a significant LLD (Leg Length Discrepancy) has resulted in almost 20 years of research to adjust the bicycle to riders with physical asymmetries. “Everyone has one, knowing when and how much to correct is the question and the opportunity to turn chronic pain into chronic enjoyment!” says Coleman of his quest for cycling Nirvana.
In 2008 Coleman joined the team at Boulder Cycle Sport and was privileged to work for several months with Todd Carver and his new high tech RETUL 3D Motion capture technology. While the training would foreshadow things to come, time spent observing Carver resulted in a new interest in fit for the competitive cyclist. More to the point fit for the competitive cyclist not gifted with the same physiology as a professional cyclist. The conclusion was the same; the bicycle must be adjusted to the rider, not the other way around.
Initially defined by co-founder Taro Smith, Boulder Cycle Sport’s fit methodology was solidified once Coleman received hands on fit training with Andy Pruitt, Tammy Dick and Sean Madsen of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine. With this training Coleman was able to teach all Sales Associates the correct way to adjust a bike to a rider’s unique physiological needs. This created the standard every Associate was able to execute, ensuring a safe and comfortable fit every time. Knowing you will be sized and fit correctly to your bike, even if for only a test ride, established Boulder Cycle Sport as the marque place to buy your new bike in the Front Range.
In 2013 Boulder Cycle Sport has further invested in fit by building on our great relationship with Todd Carver and the team at RETUL. The new Vantage 3D motion capture system featuring RETUL Muve fit cycle is the pinnacle of fit technology. Upon completion of RETUL’s Fit Certification, John Coleman is now prepared to take his vast experience and training to a level not yet seen in a retail setting. Lets go!
