Cranksgiving – Boulder
Are you ready for CRANKSGIVING?
Cranksgiving is a charity bike ride that began in 1999, organized by New York City bike messengers. Food is collected at grocery store “checkpoints” and then after being collected at the end of the race, will be donated to a local food bank. All kinds of cyclists are welcome! There is no set course, and you can ride at your own pace. Cranksgiving – Boulder is an effort by Boulder Cycle Sport to give back to those in need during the holidays. Furthermore, this event is to bring community awareness to support locally and independently owned business. We do for the community what on-line stores can’t!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
On race day participants will receive a map/manifest 15 minutes before the start of the race. The map/manifest will have designated grocery store locations marked and a shopping list. Riders are to go to the grocery store checkpoints and buy the non-perishable food items from the checklist. There is no registration fee, the $20 you need to bring goes towards the purchase of food items. The first participant to get to the finish after visiting all the checkpoints & purchasing all the items from the list wins! Cranksgiving is lots of fun and for a great cause, it also helps shine a positive light on the local cycling community. Expect to spend about $2-3 at each grocery store ($20 total), it is required to keep all your receipts. The ride is approximately 8-10 miles depending on how you design your route, speed will be an obvious factor. Locations are not announced in advance and there is no predetermined route – or even an order in which you must follow. Best we can tell, you’ll be riding 10 miles – but that is up to you!
Your mission is to figure out the best route to these locations, purchase the food item specified and bring your bounty of nourishment to the start/finish area safely. Knowing your way around the city & the aisles of a supermarket can be advantageous. Safety is paramount. We want everyone coming back alive and well. Please obey all traffic laws and wear a helmet.
*Racing is not required, you can simply participate by riding with a group and visiting the checkpoints at your own pace. We want to make sure everyone is included, all bikes are welcomed. Please keep in mind that the cause is what’s most important.
